Chicken Bon Chon Style

My sister and I have been craving for Bon Chon chicken since the last time we went to Manila. Since there’s no branch here in Laguna, particularly in our town, There is a Bon Chon branch at a nearby mall, but still, we had to find a similar recipe so we can enjoy this famous Korean-style fried chicken at home.

While searching online, my sister found with the Bon Chon-style chicken recipe. We tried it  and it was a hit!

Maangchi’s authentic Korean dishes (amazon affiliate link) include a similar fried chicken with sauce type of dish. This is one cookbook that true-blue Korean food fanatics will surely enjoy at home.

Without further a do, here’s our own version of chicken Bon Chon-style:


1kg large chicken wings
salt and pepper
2 tbsp flour
3 tbsp rice flour (substitute with cornstarch)


1 tbsp finely chopped ginger
3 tbsp finely chopped garlic
oil for sauteeing
1/4 cup apple cider vinegar
3 tbsp honey
2 tbsp sugar
3 tbsp thai chili sauce
2 tbsp soy sauce
2-3 chopped red chilis

Marinate chicken wings in salt and pepper. Combine flour and rice flour and dredge the wings. Shake off excess flour or combine all ingredients in a ziplock bag and then shake.

Fry wings for 10 mins in medium high heat. They will be under-cooked. Set aside and cool.

Fry wings for another 10 mins until golden brown. While frying, prepare the sauce.

Heat 2 tbsp oil, add garlic and ginger. Brown slightly. Add chilis, vinegar and soy sauce. Simmer and add chili sauce, honey and sugar.

Adjust measurements according to taste.

Mix fried wings and sauce in a bowl. Serve hot with rice and veggies .
